Guide to the Ryder Cup
The Ryder Cup is a Golf Tournament held every two years between teams from Europe and the USA. Its name derives Samuel Ryder, an English businessman and golf fan, who donated the trophy in the biennial competition between the two sides first.
The first tournament was held Worcester, Massachusetts, and was a landslide victory for the United States won by 9.5 to 2.5 points. Samuel could not be present because he suffered from health problems at that time.
The Cup was originally a competition between the U.S. and Britain, but this changed in 1979 when the rest of Europe joined the team. This was good news for the British team, the states were extremely dominant in the forty years prior to the inclusion of Europe.
The format of the Ryder Cup
Ryder Cup matches have employed a number of different match play competitions. Two teams of twelve players fighting for four to eight ball games, twelve singles matches, and eight foursome matches with the winner of each match to earn a point for his team. In the case of a tie, each team in the match is awarded half a point.
Results
Before the 2nd World War saw Ryder Cup Great Britain and the U.S. fairly evenly matched, although the States have a 4-2 record for most computer file of the small island. The competition was absent from the sporting calendar between 1937 and 1947 due to World War II.
After the Ryder Cup war saw the States as very dominant, with Britain achieved only one victory between 1947 and 1977. It is one of the most one-sided records in the history of world sport and is a testament to the quality the U.S. golf talent have occurred in recent years.
As the rest of Europe joined the cup in the United States has found that things be like a walk in the park. Europe has won seven titles in the Ryder Cup, like the states, and in 1989 there was a tie, allowing Europe to retain the cup.
The most recent of the Ryder Cup was the 2008 event, held at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. The United States led the victors with a score unexpected of 16.5-11.5. It was generally felt that Europe would win, as pre-registration in the United States was poor and formed a team with little experience in match play. Brokers betting was heavy losses after this result.

Nick Faldo, not only has the record for most appearances in the Cup (11), is also its highest points scorer in its history with 25.
The youngest golfer to play in the Ryder Cup is Sergio García, who at the age of 19 years made its debut. Moreover, the oldest player is Raymond Floyd, who was 51 when he competed his final appearance.
In its earlier form, the U.S. team won thirteen consecutive Ryder Cups from 1959 straight through 1983.
